StoryConnect: The Conference Set For March 11-13

November 16, 2018 By Andy Johns

WordSouth’s annual StoryConnect conference is set for March 11-13, 2019 at the Westin in Huntsville, Alabama.

This year’s conference will take a close look at how telcos and energy providers are finding ways to tell their stories, as well as live podcasts, the Idea Exchange and more. StoryConnect is designed to help communicators at telcos and electric utilities discover and refine their storytelling skills.

At this year’s conference John Formica, “The Ex-Disney Guy,” will be the keynote speaker on March 13. Formica was the highly anticipated speaker for the 2017 conference, which was rescheduled due to a hurricane that threatened the southern U.S.

“I’ve been to more than a few telco and utility conferences, and John is my favorite speaker I’ve heard,” said Andy Johns, the conference organizer. “Not only is he engaging and inspiring, but his message and insights are also perfect for our audience. I’m glad we were able to reschedule him for StoryConnect.”

StoryConnect 2019 will also include an improved online registration system. Additional details will be coming soon.

For travel planning, the conference will stick to the same basic schedule as recent years, beginning at 1 p.m. CT on Monday, March 11, and concluding by noon on Wednesday, March 13.

More information and registration will soon be available here.

Project: WEC Lineman Appreciation Day

June 14, 2018 By Zach Moore

BACKGROUND

Wiregrass Electric Cooperative has always actively communicated appreciation of its linemen as part of the cooperative’s identity. Because of this, the communities in WEC’s service area have a high awareness and support of WEC linemen as well.

PROJECT

In 2014, WEC held its first Lineman Appreciation Day luncheon. Since then, the luncheon has become a popular annual event. Co-op members, local politicians and families of the line crews are invited to come celebrate and are encouraged to show their support on social media with the hashtag #ThankALineman. The event is also covered by local press.

RESULTS

WEC linemen are reminded regularly that they have the support and the thanks of the community as well as cooperative management. Additionally, WEC receives excellent public relations for the event through a number of different news outlets, word of mouth and social media.
